Modern Poultry Facility – 16,000m² Agricultural Development

SB4 Construction ae near completion on a 16,000m² poultry facility, representing a new benchmark in modern agricultural building design and sustainable construction.

The units feature a double-panel composite system with integrated air ventilation channels, delivering exceptional thermal efficiency and optimised airflow throughout — ensuring a controlled environment that supports both animal welfare and operational performance.

Biosecurity & Site Control

Biosecurity was central to the design brief from the outset. The facility incorporates a dedicated vehicle misting system, airlock entry doors, and a secure turnstile access point with a rotating passcode system — providing robust, controlled access and minimising the risk of contamination at every touchpoint.

Sustainability & Renewable Energy

Sustainability runs through every aspect of this project. The site benefits from a comprehensive renewable energy package including ground source heating, a biomass and CHP unit, a 1MW solar array, and 2MW of battery storage — significantly reducing the facility’s reliance on grid energy and its long-term carbon footprint.

From a ground works perspective, lime and cement stabilisation techniques were employed across the site, treating and re-using the existing subgrade material in place of importing virgin aggregates. This approach reduced the need for imported aggregates by approximately 70%, cutting both haulage emissions and material costs considerably — a sustainable solution that also delivered programme and cost efficiencies on site.

Further sustainable measures include recycled plastic drainage systems and environmentally conscious concrete mixes, reinforcing our commitment to reducing embodied carbon throughout the build.

This project demonstrates what modern agricultural construction can achieve when sustainability, biosecurity, and operational performance are considered together from day one.
